Your phone system runs over the internet, so most phone problems trace back to power or network.
Phones not ringing or showing offline
- Check the internet first. If your internet is down, the phones go with it — see our internet troubleshooting article. Desk phones will reconnect on their own once the connection returns.
- Reboot the phone. Unplug the phone's power (or network cable if it's powered over ethernet), wait 10 seconds, and reconnect.
Cordless/handheld phones
- If the corded base phone rings but the handhelds don't, place the handheld back on its charging base and make sure the base station (the unit the handhelds pair to) has power. Reboot the base station if needed.
- Check the handheld's battery — a dead battery is the most common culprit.
During an internet outage
Callers will typically reach voicemail or hear ring-no-answer. Calls can also be forwarded to a cell phone — contact us and we can set that up in minutes from the RingCentral admin side.
What to tell support
Which phones are affected (front counter, office, handhelds), whether the internet is up, and what a caller hears when they dial in. We manage your RingCentral account and can check line status, forwarding, and outages remotely.
